Our Services
New Salem Counseling Services
Pastoral & Biblical Counseling
While pastoral and biblical counselors are not licensed counselors, they can be incredibly helpful when an individual is not experiencing a “clinical mental health” concern. Pastoral and biblical counseling is often thought of as “problem-based professional discipleship” where the counselor uses the Bible to identify, understand, and address personal and relational problems.
Each of our professional pastoral and biblical counselors holds a master’s degree in counseling and has experience providing clinically-informed biblical counseling. Pastoral and biblical counselors do not charge a set fee for their services, but are paid by New Salem Counseling and dependent on donations to this organization for their support.
Graduate Student Counselors
Graduate student counselors are currently enrolled in a graduate level counselor training program and are working towards some form of counseling licensure or certification. As part of their coursework, these graduate students are completing their counseling Internship or Practicum requirements in a supervised setting.
Each of our graduate student counselors is working towards a master’s degree in counseling and is being supervised by a licensed counselor during their internship. Graduate students cannot charge for their services nor are they paid for their services. However, New Salem Counseling does charge an administrative fee for sessions with our graduate students to offset the student’s supervision and administrative overhead.
As a part of the supervision process, students are required to discuss with their supervisor the counseling sessions they provide. Often this will involve creating an audio or video recording of their sessions which is deleted after it has been discussed with their supervisor. The focus of these supervision conversations is on the student’s growth in their field of counseling.
Licensed & Clinical Counseling
Licensed counselors have advanced training and experience working with a large variety of personal and relational concerns including those classified as “clinical mental health.” Licensed counselors use both biblical and psychological principles to promote emotional, relational, and spiritual healing.
Each of our licensed counselors holds a master’s degree in counseling and has been licensed by their state licensure board. Licensed counselors do charge a fee for their service. Some of our licensed counselors can accept third-party payments from health insurance companies.
Therapy & Support Groups
Therapy and support groups are similar in that they are a small group of individuals (typically 4-10) who meet regularly to find personal growth in a struggle that is shared by all group members.
Therapy groups are led by one of New Salem’s counseling staff, and there is a fee for the participants. CLICK HERE for information on therapy groups offered through New Salem.
Support groups are led by lay persons (not trained counselors) who have personally experienced what the other group members are working through, and there is not a fee for participation. CLICK HERE for information on support groups offered at Calvary Baptist Church.
Classes & Workshops
At various times throughout the year, New Salem will offer a variety of training classes and workshops. These opportunities will address various mental health and relationship topics such as marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, parenting, communication skills, mentor training, and more. These classes will be led by New Salem staff or other leaders from our community. Some of these classes will be offered at no charge while others will have a registration fee.
New opportunites will be available starting this Fall.
Costs & Insurance
New Salem Counseling is a church-based nonprofit ministry providing gospel-centered biblical and licensed counseling along with other services and opportunities. Some of our counseling and services have an associated fee while other services are provided on a contribution basis.

WAVES
A growth group for women in the constantly shifting waves of life
COMING THIS SPRING!
In this therapist-guided group, Libby Wolosiewicz, PhD, LPC, (MI) will lead the participants to explore what makes a woman spiritually, emotionally, cognitively and biologically resilient when the turbulent waves of life hit, feeling like they are going to drown her.
Death of a loved one, divorce, empty nest, infertility, aging, trauma, relationship betrayal, chronic illness, and career change are just a few of the losses we may process in this group. Gospel and evidence-based strategies will be introduced in a safe setting. By learning to surf the waves through the work of the Holy Spirit and practicing the gospel, we will become the truer woman that God always intended for us to be.
This group will meet on Thursdays later in the spring. The total cost of this therapy group is $244 (7 sessions at $35 per 90-minute session). Payment options include: one payment of $244, or two payments of $122.

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. Psalm 65:5-7
